Hey there! I’m Teri and I live in Sydney Australia with my husband and our 4 year old daughter.
Connecting with my daughter through reading is one of the most joyful and magical experiences I’ve had since becoming a mother. Here at Petit Book Corner, I hope to inspire and show you ways to connect with your children by reading with them and provide you with some great reading tips along the way.
Children develop a love and appreciation for reading and the magic of storytelling by being exposed to great quality books. They become better writers, creative and critical thinkers and storytellers the more they read. I believe it is our job as parents to facilitate this in their lives.
When I’m not in the classroom teaching my Kindergarten class, you can find me hanging out with our little girl reading picture books, visiting the library, hanging out at our local park, drinking coffee (I need it to start my day) and taking photos. I’m mostly known for giving my friends and family book recommendations and baking goodies. I love seeing the world through a camera lens and through my daughter’s eyes. The things that are most important to me are family, friends, learning, books, photography and travel.
I’m incredibly passionate about ongoing learning, so much so, I went back to school to do my Masters of Teaching Primary as a mature student. I love the idea of creating a community of learning for children. I believe through collaboration between parents, teachers and schools, children have the greatest chance to achieve their personal best.
The number one question I get asked from parents, as a schoolteacher, is ‘What can I do at home to help my child at school?’. The thing I most commonly recommend is to read at home WITH your child. Reading is a shared experience and allows us to connect with our children in a meaningful way. I hope you find some ideas and tips about the things you can do at home to help you connect with your child through reading.
Thanks for stopping by! Send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) as I always love connecting with like-minded parents and teachers who are passionate about developing a love for reading with their children.
